Vértesszőlős

There is a museum entirely focused on the famous historic man Samu whose remains were found in 1964 near Vértesszőlős. He was a late Homo erectus, somewhere between Homo erectus and Homo sapiens. Only part of the occipital bone by Samu was found. He lived about 350.000 years ago in this area according to the archaeologists.

Alcsútdoboz

Alcsútdoboz Arborétum, located in Alcsút, is probably the most original garden in Hungary. This quiet, 40 acre garden was designed by Carl Tost, a gardener from Austria. There are hundreds of exotic and native plants and shrubs planted. In the village you will also find the ruins of a castle.

Bicske

In the town Bicske you can find the Batthiány Castle. This castle was built in 1490 and owes its name to the Batthyánys, a famous Hungarian noble family. The castle is situated in a park and has been recently renovated in its original Baroque style.

Csókakő

In Csókakő there is a 700 year old medieval castle. This castle was built on the rocky plateau above the Mór in the western part of the Vértes forest. Csókakő Castle was the most important political centre (after Székesfehérvár) of the region from the 13th to the 16th century. Since 1995 it is constantly restorated.

Csákberény

The village of Csákberény is located in the northwestern part of Fejér County at the foot of the southern slopes of the Vértes forest. In 1991, Csákberény opened a village museum in the building of the cultural center. The museum exhibits furniture, tools and clothing of the local population from the 1920s to 1930s. The special feature of this historical village museum is that all artifacts that can be found in the museum are donated by the inhabitants of the village.

Lovasberény

One of the special sights in Lovasberény is the Castle Cziráky. The construction of the castle dates back to the 17th century, but the building owes its current form to a 19th century renovation. The U-shaped, one-storey main building has a porch with ionic columns and a triangular tympanum. The ceremonial hall above the large hall is decorated with wall paintings. The garden of the castle is beautiful, the rest of the castle is quite dilapidated.

Another nearby attraction is the Lovasberény Art Gallery. This was originally a farmhouse built in 1798.

Mór

In Mór you will find the beautiful castle Lamberg. The castle was built by Lord Franz Anton Lamberg as his summer residence. The construction of the castle started in 1762 and was completed in 1766. In 1810 an earthquake destroyed a large part of the building. But later it was restored. You will find the original wooden doors and window frames in the Castle. On the first floor there are also special paintings on display.
